Moreover each laborer has to get 150 gram ordinary tea monthly. Half of the rice may be substituted by three times the quantity of Yam, Taro, Breadfruit or Bananas.

(12). The Employer has to pay wages montaly. In case of sickness (not through his fault) the laborer receives one third of his wages. In case of sickness through the laborers fault as well as in cases of refusal of work, absconding etc. the employer is entitled to deduct an amount equal to the missed workdays.

(13). The employer has to keep a wayes book for each laborer and to

enter into it:

(1). Amount of wages paid and date of payments.

(2). Any deductions and the reason why.

(14). If a laborer dies, the Protector of Chinese has to be notified

and all inheritance and the wages book to be handed over to the latter for settlement.

(15). The laborer has to punctually adhere to the working time fixed on the plantations and cannot leave without permission of the Employer.

(16). The daily working time must not be more than 10 hours. All Sundays

and certain German and Chinese holidays to be free.

Overwork to be paid extra. On holidays the workmen way get leave

but he must return not later than 9 p.m. unless he gets special

permission.

(17). The laborer must not leave his working place without permission. (18). Any complaints to be told to the Protector of Chinese on his usual

inspection tour. In cases of gross ill treatment the laborer May bring his complaint before the Protector of Chinese at the latter's office. Does the latter find that there is no case of

complaint, he may give orders that a small deduction is being made

for the time lost.
